On 22-30 August, TDM 2000 hosted the youth exchange “EU Opportunities of European Citizenship”, which was part of the European Citizenship Academy project. 25 young people from Italy, France, Portugal, Greece, and Poland gathered in Nurri, Italy, to discuss active citizenship on a European level. Throughout the week, participants attended workshops and took part in discussions aimed at building a network of engaged young Europeans, while strengthening their sense of European identity.
The week began with discussions on European values and the challenges that young people face in the different countries represented in the project. Later on, the sessions covered topics such as active citizenship, the European Youth Goals, and the various opportunities that are available for young people within the EU. Other workshops gave the participants a chance to explore various forms of civic engagement, such as participatory budgeting and e-participation.
Cultural exchange was a very important part of the week – in the evenings, each country hosted their intercultural night, sharing their traditional food, customs, dances, and other national elements. In addition to that, the group took part in several cooking workshops of typical Sardinian sweets and pasta, as well as visited a traditional Sardinian heritage site, where they could learn more about the region’s history.
As the exchange wrapped up, the participants left Nurri with a clearer sense of European citizenship and new international friends. The team is now looking forward to the next phases of the project, ready to continue making an impact in their communities.
